Tips for Plumbing Home Remodels

Whether it's fixing that leaky faucet or unclogging the commode, plumbing home remodels can be quite a chore. It's amazing how much damage just a small amount of water in the wrong places can do. So, if you're faced with plumbing home remodels, make sure to do your homework before you begin the project. Prevention is always better than trying to solve a problem.

If you're planning plumbing remodels as part of a total remodel, it's a great time to improve and thus prevent future plumbing jobs. Whatever project you're about to attempt can be accomplished easier if you do your homework first by simply doing a bit of evaluation and planning.

One important step to use when doing plumbing home remodels as part of a total remodel is to make sure to install cut-off valves at each area of water use. All sinks, faucets, tubs, water heaters, and commodes should have a cut-off valve at their location. This can save a bundle should leaks or overflows occur.

Another factor that's important is the location of your pipes and fittings in the scheme of your plumbing home remodels. It's important to plan the layout for ease of access as well as water travel for the hot water.

If you have plumbing remodels scheduled to prevent or eliminate problems, start with locating and finding the source of the problem. Easy access is not usually the rule. Often plumbing pipes are hard to access. Don't be surprised if you have to cut portions of a wall or flooring to access your trouble areas. This is especially true if your home has been constructed on a concrete slab.

For a leak, start by identifying the area that has the most moisture accumulation. By locating as nearly as possible the exact source before you go into a crawl space or start going into walls and ceilings for an upstairs leak do your best to isolate exactly where the problem begins.

For a stopped up drain, grease is often the culprit. Sometimes using a hair dryer at the low point of your pipe can melt the problem. After you"ve heated it well, try running hot water for several minutes to assure the grease is gone from your pipes. You"d be surprised at how many times this saves a costly plumbing bill.

Tips for Improving Your Home Videos

Video cameras can be a terrific tool to capture memories. Whether it's a soccer game, school play, or a birthday party, a video camera allows you to have a tangible record of sunny days and happy times. Unfortunately, we're not all cinematic master minds and our home videos seldom resemble the art seen on the big screen. However, there are a few things you can keep in mind to make the most out of your home videos.

* Keep Batteries On Hand:

It's happened to all of us. You're about to capture a memory on film and before you know it the camera blinks once and shuts off. Running out of batteries can ruin any home video and there is only one quick fix. Carry an extra battery thats ready to go should the one in use fail.

* Use a Tripod:

You've seen the videos that remind you of bitter stormy days out at sea. It's hard to concentrate on the recorded event when they images are barely held long enough to be in focus. Even if you think you're pretty good when it comes to taking a steady video, a tripod can help you focus on the events at hand instead of on how still you can keep your arm.

* Read the Users Guide:

Reading the instruction can definitely help improve the quality of your home videos. It's important to familiarize yourself with each feature and it's purpose as well as the general set up of the camera. It's never a good idea to wait until the last minute to do this. If you're planning on shooting something important and feel you may need to use a special feature, read up on it before the event so you're well prepared when the time comes.

* Frame the Action:

Pretend you're screen is divided into nine individual squares in rows and columns of three. The center block should contain the majority of you're main focus. This will help you capture the maximum amount of action surrounding your focal point. If you're a beginner this should help you get a feel of the camera and you can experiment with different approaches as you improve.

* Experiment:

Experimentation is an excellent way to learn, taking your talents to the next level. Choose every day events and situations and take you're turn at playing the artistic director. Use all the special features, practice scene changes, and use different angles to find out what works best for you and you're subject. Save the experiments for moments that aren't of particular importance so you don't wind up with sloppy footage of monumental events.

* Maximize Your Sound:

We often throw sound to the curb when it comes to video taping. While that factory built microphone in your camera is great for soccer games or birthday parties you will want something more for recitals or other events where part of the focus is on what is being said or sang. Invest in an external microphone for anything where audio clarity is of great importance.

* Don't Rely on Auto-focus:

Auto focus can be terrific under the right circumstances but it's not the solution to all you're focusing problems. For example, using auto focus while filming in softly lit or dim areas can leave you with hard to view footage. When you are filming in less than perfect lighting you're best ally is learning to how to use navigate options like white balance and exposure.

Work At Home Tips For Moms and Dads

A Work At Home Job is perfect for parents of young children. But it might not be perfect for you. To be successful working from home, you need to have self-discipline, motivation, and support from the rest of the family. The following tips can help a work at home mom or dad keep their sanity by helping you deal with the different issues brought up by working at home.

* Set Your Work Hours, and More Importantly, Stick to Them.

If you know that you are going to be free from the hours of 10 AM to 2 PM on weekdays - then work from 10 to 2. Get things done during that time, that way you won't feel guilty about spending time with the family in the evening because you know you got your work done. Sometimes you might feel like your working 24/7, and not really getting much done, but by setting your own hours and sticking with them - you'll start to see tremendous progress in your home based business.

* Give Everyone At Home Their Own Office

It's easy to become distracted while your working at home if your three year old wants to constantly sit in mommy's lap. Set her up with her own little desk and let her do 'office' work while mommy is working. Give her some crayons and stickers - some play-doh and let her get her work done too.

* Plan Big or Important Projects Around Child Care

Regular office and business tasks like stuffing envelopes or writing emails or internet research can be accomplished with the kids running around. But if you have a bigger task like an important business call or more focused work like writing, then be sure to schedule a few hours where you can work without having the kids screaming and running around. If you need to - trade a few hours a week with another mom so that you'll both have some alone time to get things done.

* Take Yourself Seriously And Others Will As Well

Even if you like to work in a t-shirt and barefeet, take yourself and what you are doing seriously. If you begin to thing of yourself as a businessperson, the people around you will as well and will respect the boundaries that you need to run a successful home based business.

Home Insurance - Top Tips

Keeping your home in good order is not only important for your own "peace of mind", but also plays a big role with regards to your home insurance policy.

If you have been neglectful with any home repairs or upkeep then you may find it very difficult to impossible to obtain a pay out if required down the line.

Although vital to our existence, water is one of houses' greatest enemies, leading to a myriad of problems if ignored. Dampness which can lead to rot can be prevented by a number of measures.

Firstly, ensure all the gutters on your home are checked and free of leaves or other small debris which can cause blockages, allowing water to enter your home.

You should also check that the damp course on your property is functioning efficiently and repair any problem areas.

Secondly, checking your roof for loose tiles and broken seals can prevent water from entering this way.

The walls holding your home up are an obvious factor that should be maintained, what exactly to look out for however, may not be.

Keeping your home's paintwork free from cracks and blisters can help prevent damage to the structure of your home. Secondly, if you have any "climbing plants" around your home, make sure they are "trimmed down" regularly as they can get out of control quicker than you may think!

"Damage from falling trees" is something that most buildings cover policies will protect against. If however, it was an already rotting tree that causes damage to your house, then your insurer may not pay out. The roots of certain tree's can sometimes cause significant damage to a buildings foundation, so it's important to look into this.

This is only a small outline of the aspects you will need to take into consideration while maintaining your home, so having a proper look at your home insurance policy to see exactly what you are covered against is strongly advised.

If you are unsure about any aspect of your house insurance, then its best to talk with your insurance company. Comparing quotes online is an excellent way of obtaining cheap home insurance.

12 Tips For Choosing The Best Home Stager

Not all home stagers are created equal. Before hiring a stager, there are some things you should consider. At this time there is no independent national organization(like ASID for interior designers, or NAR for Realtors) that certifies or licenses home stagers, and no government oversight or licensing in most areas. Here are some tips to help you select the right stager to help you sell your home:

1. Experience and professionalism trumps "certification", "education" or "designation" in the staging world. Hire the stager with the most real world experience, not the stager with the most letters behind their name, although they may be one and the same.

2. Ask to see the stager's portfolio - either on line or hard copy (book form). If they don't have a staging portfolio, in all probability they have never done a staging job, they have never done a good staging job, or they are lousy at marketing - a very undesirable trait in a home stager.

3. Does the portfolio display a wide range of styles or do all the homes they stage look the same? Make sure the stager is capable of staging in a manner that accentuates the architecture of your home and will be attractive to the buyers in your area.

4. Ask if the stager rents furniture from another source or owns the furniture they will be using in your staging project. Make sure that the furniture that they will be using is appropriate to the style of your home and not just what they happen to have in their inventory at that time.

5. Ask the stager if the photos in their portfolio are of jobs they performed themselves, or as part of a class exercise. You want an experienced stager who has lots of jobs under their belt and lots of photos of their work, not someone who has never done a staging job, or has never done a staging job outside of a class environment.

6. Make sure none of the photos are "stock" photos that they purchased or lifted off of someone else's web site. All photos in a stager's portfolio should be of their own work.

7. Ask for references, including phone numbers and/or email addresses. Check those references. Ask the reference if they would hire that stager again.

8. Ask for proof of liability insurance. If the stager is not insured, then the homeowner may be liable for any damages or injuries that may occur as a result of the staging.

9. All employees and helpers the company uses should be covered by Workers Comp insurance. See #8.

10. Make sure you are given a clearly written contract and that you understand all aspects of the contract. If you don't understand something, or something that you discussed is not in writing, ask for clarification.

11. Do you get a good feeling from meeting the stager? Do they seem well organized? Do they listen to your input? Do they make notes or take photographs? Are they on time to your meeting? Just as in any business relationship, you should expect to be treated with professionalism, courtesy & respect.

12. Remember - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. You are selling your most valuable asset (your home). Look for the staging professional with the greatest competency, experience and professionalism, rather than the cheapest price.

Cedar Home Cleaning Tips

In late 1979 I was in the cedar sun room business. We use cedar because it was one of the few natural products that could take the weather year round. We made each room from scratch (this is before all those kit sun rooms came out), I would design it, sell it, and build it and I love doing it.

As you can imagine a sun room should be on the south or southwest side of the house to be able to catch the most sunlight. The only drawback when doing this is the ultra-violet rays from the sun would bleach the cedar wood out. I want to point out it takes several years before this bleaching effect really get noticeable.

After a while I started to get calls from homeowners that I had built these cedar sun rooms asking was there anything they could do (they met I could do) to restore the natural color back into the wood. I did a little research and found a product that work great (it's not on the market today because of environmental issues) and lasted for a long time,up to ten years.

This was really easy work and did not take long to do and besides the money doing it wasn't bad either. Everyone love the results and other homeowners in the neighborhood were seeing what I was doing wanted me to take care of their cedar home. Yea, I'm not so dumb I created a business for restoring cedar homes.

Getting down to the process of cleaning a cedar home is really simple but you are going to need help and that help is a pressure washer. Second which is optional but I would highly recommend would be to use a cedar cleaning solution when pressure washing.

The cedar cleaning solution can be purchase from any paint store. Let the person at the store know what you are trying to do,which is restoring your cedar siding. They will suggest a product that they are familiar with because they deal with painting contractors everyday. Have them go over the direction with you before you leave the store with the product and if you have any questions ask them before you leave.

Now for pressure washers. You will most likely will have to rent a contractor grade pressure washer from a rental store. It should be at least 2500 psi and no more than 300 psi. The psi is the pressure that's is coming out of the machine but it is not the real pressure coming out of the cleaning tip of the wand.

Pressure washers that you rent from rental stores are generally not in the best condition. They have a lot of wear,a lot of hours on the machine and cleaning tips. Which means what ever psi you think you are are getting will really be less. Which is O.K. because cedar wood is very soft and you won't need as much pressure to clean it.

Make sure the rental store starts and stops the pressure washer so you know its in working order. Also ask about any safety instruction that you might need to know. Safety glasses, not to point the wand at someone while operating, etc. Have them also go over the different cleaning tips and how they are use.

The first thing you want to do is play with the pressure washer for a while to get the feel of it. Even if its to clean your side walk or driveway. Experiment with the different cleaning tips to see what they can do,if you have a piece of wood try pressure washing that with the different tips.

Now,one more thing before you start to wash your house. Lets find a place that is out of the way maybe the side of the house where no one goes. We want to start here because if you decide you can't do the job or I might mess up. Its best to do it where no one will notice.

The secret of pressure washing cedar siding is do one complete board at a time. Start on the left and work to the right. With the pressure washer turn on, move toward the cedar slowly. When you see the dirt and mold start to disappear start moving to your right. You don't have to get the board clean the first time. You can always go back and pressure wash it again. Take your time you are not in a rush and after about thirty minutes you'll notice you're getting faster.

It takes me about thirty minutes to show a new person hoe to clean cedar siding and most of that time is verbal instructions. Within several hours they can work on there own, they might be slow but they can get the job done.

As far as using cedar cleaning solution, I only use them if the cedar is very dirty or has mold. Follow the instructions on the container and what ever the sales person suggested at the store you purchase the product from. I generally soak the cedar wood with the pressure washer using the largest (40 degree tip) cleaning tip. Then I'll change to a fifteen degree tip to wash the cedar.

Soaking helps the pores of the wood to swell up making it easier for you to pressure wash. Also I soak the cedar wood before I applied any cedar cleaning solution.

Take your time, do a couple of test and you'll do fine.

Work At Home Moms- Here Are 5 Tips

One sad reality today is that it requires a lot of money to raise a family. This has forced what has become known as the two income family. Both the husband and wife go to work and leave the kids to be raised by babysitters or the school system.

One exception to this are work at home moms who have found a way to make money at home while being available for their kids as well.

Here are five work at home mom tips that you should use when trying to make money at home and raise a family.

1. Set up an area in your home and call it your home office. This does not even have to be a separate room unless you have the space. The key is is that your kids know when you're in this area, that means you are working and not to be disturbed.

You might even want to go so far as to post working hours, and the only thing that can vary that is an emergency. Of course work at home moms have demands on their time when they have kids so if you have planned activities schedule those in the daytime or work those around your set hours.

2. Now that you are at work what do the kids do? This takes some ingenuity on your part it is important that they are able to keep themselves occupied, so they do not get hurt or get into trouble in some way.

3. Consider setting up an Internet business that allows you the flexibility of working around your family lifestyle. For example, if you are a night owl, you can work while your husband and kids are asleep. Because the Internet never sleeps you can work at home anytime you want 24 hours a day.

4. Take the time to sit down and have breakfast with your husband and kids. If possible end the day by having a family dinner together as well. These can be special times that allow everyone to get their day off to the correct start or a wonderful ending and is a huge benefit for not needing to go to work outside of your home.

5. Schedule planned activities such as a day at the zoo or going to a movie. Work at home moms are blessed in that they do not have to ask the boss for time off. But again it will be important that you schedule activities such as this so that you make sure you get your work done in advance.

This is five work at home mom tips that you can use to be more effective in how you combine your career at home with your kids and family.

Home Appraisal Tips

You should know what your home is worth. If you don't then you will want to have it appraised immediately. After all the value of your home is a deciding factor in the amount of money you try to get out of your home when you sell it. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of your home appraisal.

1. Do your best to stay out of the way of your appraiser. It might be tempting to tell your appraiser about the other homes for sale in your neighborhood or what you think your home is worth, but try to suppress this urge. It will be uncomfortable enough having a stranger looking through your home and deciding how much it is worth. Don't make it worse by offending the appraiser. An appraiser who is annoyed or uncomfortable might rush the job and could miss things that would have impacted the final number they come up with.

2. Keep your home neat, clean and make sure all of the maintenance work has been taken care of. This doesn't mean that you should be able to see your reflection in your kitchen floor, but a messy or cluttered home makes it easier to overlook the sound structure of the frame or how safe the interior is. Make sure you fix those leaky faucets, loose carpet squares and anything else that could lower the impression your home makes on the appraiser. If you plan on leaving any of your appliances behind, make sure those appliances are in perfect working condition.

3. If you have done remodeling work, or have rebuilt any part of the house, do not be afraid to point that out. This might not necessarily raise the value of the home by the same amount that you have invested, but it is important for the appraiser to know what is new, what major problems have been fixed, etc.

These are just three simple tips to make the appraisal experience a friendlier one and to make your appraiser's job as easy to do as possible.

Newborn Baby’s First Nights At Home: Tips To Help Your Baby Learn To Sleep Throughout The Night

You have a new baby, oh what wonder and joy this little guy or gal is, however, you have not had a good night’s sleep since being home with this wonderful little creature. Don’t give up. You can help your new baby sleep all night, every night. And remember, you are certainly not alone. Sleepless nights are something common for most new parents.

Newborn babies often sleep 16 or more hours per day. Their sleep time, however, is often done in stretches of just one to two hours at a time. As your baby’s nervous system matures a more consistent sleep schedule emerges and he or she can go longer between feedings.

By the time your new baby reaches three months of age he or she will probably be sleeping for as long as five hours during the night. At six months of age, nighttime stretches of nine to 12 hours are most likely.

Look over the following tips to help your baby become a good sleeper:

• Encourage activity during the day: During the waking hours with your baby keep him or her busy by talking, singing and playing. Provide your baby with lots of light. This type of stimulation during the day can help promote better sleep at night.

• Monitor your baby’s naps: Allow your baby regular naps during the day and not large chunks of time that may cause your baby to stay wide awake at night.

• Follow a consistent bedtime routine: If you bath, cuddle, sing or read to your baby just before bedtime he or she will soon associate these activities with sleep.

• Put your baby to bed drowsy but awake: This technique helps your baby associate bed with the process of falling asleep. Place your baby to sleep on his or her back. Clear the crib or bassinet of blankets and other soft items.

• Give your baby time to settle down: If your baby fusses when you first put him to bed, allow him or her to find a comfortable position for falling asleep. If the crying does not stop within a reasonable amount of time, try speaking calmly to your baby and stroke his or her back to provide reassurance of your presence.

• Consider using a pacifier: If your baby has trouble settling down, try using a pacifier at naptime and bedtime to help reduce his anxiety. One problem of using a pacifier might be if he or she loses during the middle of the night and cries for its replacement. Guess who has to get up in the middle of the night to find the pacifier for baby?

• Expect frequent stirring at night: Don’t be alarmed if you hear your baby squirming and wriggle as they sleep. This is quite normal. Some babies can be noisy. All these things may simply be a sign of settling down. Unless you suspect your baby is hungry or uncomfortable (needing a diaper change or whatever), it is OK to wait a few minutes to see if he or she finally settles down. If not, then better check on baby.

• Keep nighttime care low-key: When you feed your baby or care for he or she during the night, use dim lights, a soft voice and very calm movements. This will teach your baby that it is time to sleep and nothing else.

Some babies sleep throughout the night the first night home. I know my baby slept through the night straight from the beginning of our nights at home. She was such a good baby I would always say.

However, not all babies are alike; respect your baby’s preferences. Take time to understand your baby’s schedule and ways of communicating. They will eventually settle down and sleep the whole night through. If your baby is still fussy at nighttime by age 6 months, ask your baby’s doctor for instruction and suggestions.

The goal here is for everyone to get a good night’s sleep. It is not a measure of your parental skill or a sign of a good or bad baby. I just always thought my baby was the absolute best at everything, and sleeping throughout the night was just one more reason I thought she was “perfect.” She has paid me back though as an adult, and what I got to say about her now is not the same…..At times I ask myself is this the same person I use to know as a baby, toddler and child?

Work From Home Tips: Are You Looking to Start a Home Based Business?

The work at home industry has really taken off in the last couple of years. With the growing presence on the internet the work at home option is becoming more viable for more and more people. While working from home is great, I believe starting an internet home based business trumps it. When working from home you are still working for a boss, just not in an office setting. A home based business allows the owner to fully leave the 9-5 rat race and live a more free lifestyle. This article will go into some of the many benefits to owning your own home based business via the internet.

Freedom and flexibility are the two best characteristics of owning a home business. The freedom comes from the ability to work from anywhere at any time. The flexibility aspect comes from the fact that all you need to work is a reliable internet connection. Meaning that you can work from anywhere in the world and not be locked down to the confines of your home office. Working from home offers many luxuries as well, but lacks the freedom to do what you want and when you want.

Being that your home based business will be fully operationally through the internet the way you will communicate with people associated with your business will be internet based as well. Mainly this communication will be done via e-mail conversations. Sometimes nothing can substitute for a phone call, but when the matter is less urgent I find e-mail to be an easier way to communicate and get messages across. Dog Training At Home Tips And Techniques

Dogs are very loyal, intelligent, and easily trained. Using dog training methods developed by professional dog handlers, and proven by decades of experience, you will have a dog that will make you proud. Time, patience, and persistence are the keys to a long and happy relationship with your dog.

Everyone engaged in handling your dog, needs to know the right commands. Dog training not only means training your dog, but also the master and the entire family. Inconsistency in commands will only confuse and frustrate your dog. He wants to please you, but confusion will reign if you use multiple commands for the same action. Dogs are intelligent enough to learn several hundred words, but single word commands are much easier for your dog to understand. If you want him to lie down, teach your dog the command ‘lie’ or ‘down’. He will pick it up much faster. Use the same command every time for the desired act, not ‘lie’ one day, and ‘down’ the next. Consistency with punishment is also very important. Punishing your dog for something one day and not the next will only frustrate your dog. Punishment as well as everything else involved in dog training must be uniform.

Your dog wants to please you. Let him know when he does by showing him happiness and affection. Conversely, addressing your dog in a stern and harsh tone lets him know that you are not pleased. Never strike your dog. Biting and aggression will be the end result of hitting.

Dogs do not like to be alone. They are by nature pack animals. For your dog to be happy and well-behaved, he needs to be part of your “pack”. If you keep your dog outside, confined to a single room or out in the garage most of the time, he will not feel part of your pack. They need to feel that they belong; they need the closeness and familiarity of your family. As part of your pack, your dog needs to learn just who the “alpha dog” is. Your dog needs to know that any children in the family always rank above him.

Dogs, especially puppies, become mischievous, destructive, and sad when they have no release for their pent up energy. Prevent this undesirable behavior with lots of playtime, walks, and exercise. The younger they are, the more important exercise and playtime are to them. A tired dog is a happy dog. Be sure your dog meets your neighbors and their dogs. This prevents loneliness and makes your dog feel even more a part of a larger pack. This also helps reduce the tendency to bark at every movement.

With patient and consistent effort, you will have a dog that is a happy, well-behaved family member.

How To Make Beer At Home

There are only really several steps that are involved if you want to make beer at home. The first is to get yourself a beer kit, which is a kit that is going to include all of the different tools and materials that you are going to need to make the beer.

Then you need the four main ingredients, which are: water, malt, hops, and yeast. Water is the most abundant ingredient in any style of beer, malted barley is barley grain that has carefully been soaked in water until it sprouts and is then dried and used to make beer, hops balance out the sweetness by adding a degree of bitterness and also add a distinctive aroma to the finished brew, and finally, yeast is the catalyst which makes it all happen.

The next thing that you need to do is add all of the ingredients together using the beer kit, and there are usually instructions that come with each different beer kit because each kit usually has some different aspects to it.

You can even add your own decided flavors to the beer if you like, however you just want to make sure beforehand that you know what you are doing so that you do not use too much or too little and end up ruining the beer.

However even if you do make a mistake, you can just throw that batch out and make a new one, as practice is going to be the only way that you will be able to learn. After a few batches, you are going to be quite good at making your own beer, and you will be surprised at the freshness and tastiness of it, especially compared to the beer that you are used to drinking.

Ideas to Update Your New Interior

How better to chase away the winter blahs than to do a bit of redecorating in the home. Being the beginning of a new year, this is the ideal time to update your interior design to the latest in color and fashion trends. Or maybe you just bought a new home and are ready to make it your own.

This is an exciting season for home decor. Gone is the trend of minimalism in home decor and everything baroque is in. That means more flare and fancy to your decor, which can take the form of fabric patterns, art and accessories or all the details like lighting and window treatments.

This is also the season of neutrals on neutrals. "They" are saying that gray is the new black. That means gray tones, including silver, can be used as accents or base colors in just about any combination. The neutrals on neutrals concept means you can mix up shades of beige, taupe, brown, gray and black, incorporating a few of them into a room instead of just one.

So some examples of how to incorporate the baroque into your design is through furniture fabric. Patterns are popular, but not just anything. Multi-colored florals won't do. Try more earthy foliage themes, like ferns fronds, leaves and trees. Instead of a tiny repeated pattern go for larger, bolder prints. Choosing a couple of different prints in the same color is a great choice for balancing interesting with coordinated. Make sure furniture doesn't have too many color combinations. If you choose furniture in any of the neutral colors mentioned above, then go with something brighter and bold for the walls. If you go for bright furniture, try coordinating throw pillows and walls in a neutral or metallic color.

For home accessories, choose funky vases and lamps in interesting shapes. Ultra-modern minimalist is out, replaced by just about anything vintage.

But, you know, you don't have to follow trends. You are the one who has to live in your home, not some trend-setting designer. But trends are good for implanting ideas and for giving you a theme to go on. Plus, you can follow trends but still keep your own feel. A good guideline is to pick a theme, or a blend of up to two themes, and stick to it. For colors, pick a favorite item, be it a vase, painting or pillow, and design the room around it. Or pick your favorite color and exploit it. Whatever you do, consulting trends can be a great resource, but in the end, be sure to design a room you will be happy to live in for at least a couple of years.

Home Aesthetics : Making a More Beautiful Home with Water Fountains

The best thing about owning a home is that you get to decorate it and beautify it in any way you like. However, if you’re still struggling to get the break you’ve been waiting for and if you may not happen to live in your dream house yet, you can still make your current place of residence picturesque with the help of indoor and outdoor water fountains.

Water fountains are one of the many house accessories home makers decide to use to further beautify their ‘little haven’. Water fountains do not necessarily have to take up your whole yard or lawn, nor stand tall like a tower on your lawn. There are extensive designs and forms for water fountains—all you have to do is choose the best one for your home. Water fountains are not synonymous with garden waterfalls, although there are smaller versions of these products that may look like water fountains. Water fountains are usually “do-it-yourself” products, and if you are new at garden layouts or designs then it’s best to consult a professional, or read more below for some essential tips.

Water fountain products are made from various materials; however, lightweight equipments from organic sources are highly recommended by experts due to their weightlessness and easy handling. Other water fountains are made from granite or weathered stone—although these may seem sophisticated, buying them for household purposes might not be a good idea since these products involve complicated plumbing and fixing. If you are thinking about saving space in your garden or inside your home, fountains that are designed after vases or little wells are also available. They are easier to carry and install and they bring out the best in your residence the same way large statue-fountains do. Aside from standing fountains, there are also a few water fountains that can be located right into your wall or floor! Wall and floor fountains are usually thin and long and they are usually situated in the same places where your windows could be. They are usually made of lightweight materials, but they might require the most complicated plumbing skills since they can not be easily handled.

If you are a new or a budding home designer and if you believe that water fountains are the right pieces needed to further revamp your home, then take your pick from the extensive list of water fountain designs online. But remember, choose what is made of light yet durable materials and those that may not need heavy plumbing skills as well as heavy fountain maintenance later on.

Simple Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathroom remodeling is a must when you want to create a calming and tranquil environment within your home. The good news is that designer bathrooms do not have to cost an arm and a leg. In truth, as long as you have the right paint, tiles and coordinating trimmings you can change your bathroom into a place of great relaxation. The aim of this article is to offer advice about choosing the appropriate colors and fixtures to help you create the perfect ambiance.

The first thing people will notice when they enter your bathroom is the color. The color will set the mood so it is ideal to use a warm shade for the walls, with tiles and accessories of brighter colors. If the tiles, flooring and back splash are warm looking they will contrast nicely with the cooler look of the fixtures. A deep wall color or an eye-catching floor pattern will make a world of difference to your bathroom.

When choosing the tiles the color is not the only important factor to take into consideration. You should also think about the texture and shape of the tiles. Your tiling will also be affected by the lighting, and soft and subtle lights on the ceiling and around the vanity area will produce a relaxed atmosphere.

The sink you choose can make a great difference to your bathroom. As an alternative to the usual white porcelain style, you could opt for a ceramic, granite or even glass sink, all of which are strong yet striking to look at when coupled with well designed faucets.

If you need to create a look of more space you could consider a pedestal style sink. There are sinks on the market with matching counter tops, which not only save you money, but they also make the job in hand a lot easier to put together.

Deciding which bathtub to fit has to be a major factor in your bathroom remodeling project. In order to create that perfect place to relax and escape the day to day trivialities, a soaking tub, a tub with claw feet or a whirlpool are some of the luxury options available to you. Although the initial outlay for these items can be quite high, the long term investment will be well worth it to the person who just loves spending time in the bath. You will, however, have to ensure the room will house your tub and consider drainage issues which may be likely to arise.

Toilet shopping should be next on your list of things to do. If it is style you're looking for along with functionality, the old pull-chain water closet is all the rage at the moment. Toilets can be had in shades to match your decor and many feature automatic bidets and built in fans.

Naturally, renewing the fixtures in your bathroom is only a part of bathroom remodeling. Make the most of space and add a certain attractiveness with striking cabinetry made from captivating material such as chrome. If you are not on a tight budget you could modify the cabinets to create extra storage space. Matching toothbrush holders, soap decanters and wall mirrors are all small touches which will give the overall look you desire.

If you have artistic flair, you should let your creative side out. After all, the key to successful bathroom remodeling is creating a comfortable environment where you can relax and sooth away the stresses of the day. So if you choose to have a bathroom full of luxurious fluffy towels and bonsai trees, then go ahead and enjoy the benefits of a soak in your new bathroom.

Feng Shui Tips For Your Home

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of living in harmony with your environment. When you live in harmony with the space around you, the natural energy that all things are made of flows easily and can help to bring peace and tranquility into your life. Here are some Feng Shui tips to help you determine the important areas of your home.

Each area of your home has its own energy; some spaces are more significant than others simply because of the amount of time spent in the room. One of the most important rooms in your home is your bedroom. This should be a place of restful energy; where you can renew and nurture your mind and body.

The front door to your home is very important as well. This is the gateway between the world outside and your private world. The positioning of the main door of your house can determine the fortune of those who live within.

The hallway in your home is significant, as it is the path of transition to other areas. Halls should be wide and either have a skylight or other means of lighting at all times. Your kitchen is not the most important area of your house. but it does have some significance. The area in which your kitchen is located can determine how much mishap you may have in your home. In addition, the kitchen should not be very visible upon entering your home.

Ceilings should be flat with little to no sloping. A ceiling that is not flat disrupts the airflow and may add to sleep problems.

Another important Feng Shui tip is that your floors should be level. The material a floor is made of is not as important as being level and the color of the carpet in the room. Something as simple as the color of the carpet can affect the energy of the room.

Among the most important of Feng Shui tips for your home are things that you should avoid. You do not want your home to be located in an area with a high level of noise. This could include being near a freeway, rail tracks, or on a busy city street.

The interior and exterior of your home should also be free of any type of hazardous materials, including toxic mold, as well as disruptive influences, such as electro magnetic fields. Using some of these Feng Shui tips for your home will almost certainly have a noticeable affect on your life.

Home Painting - Painting Tips For Quick And Easy Home Updates

Perhaps it's time to freshen up your home's décor, or add some color to any plain, white walls offering no color or textural interest. Add some personality and style to rooms with some new paint.

Since it generally takes less than one hour to paint one wall in a room, painting tends to be a home improvement project people feel comfortable tackling on their own. Following are some tips to make painting projects quick and simple:

Select a quality paint. With paint, you tend to get what you pay for. Lower quality paint may produce a lower quality look. Find a mid-priced product from a name brand manufacturer for the best result at a reasonable cost.

Prepare your work area. Make sure you properly tape, drape and protect any wood trim, windows, floors, carpet and furniture. Properly preparing your work area will result in a higher quality look and will make your post-project clean up much easier.

Begin with the ceiling. Beginning with the ceiling ensures that any paint drips that hit the walls won't ruin a fresh paint job. Wall color tends to look the best under a bright, freshly painted ceiling.

Use a power roller. Invest in a power roller to get the job done more efficiently. It also makes for easier clean up. With a power roller, the paint is fed directly from the can to the wall, thus eliminating the need for paint trays. It will allow you to paint almost 20 square feet per minute.

Use a criss-cross motion. When first rolling the paint on the wall, it is best to use a criss-cross motion then paint back over the area in an up and down motion. This will ensure even coverage and will minimize paint drips.

Use a paintbrush for corners and edges. If using a power roller, roll as close to the corners and edges as possible without bumping the roller into the ceiling. Use a paintbrush to finish the corners, edges and other small spaces.

Contain the mess. Contain the mess for an easier clean up. If using dustsheets, fold them over, carry them outside, then shake them out. Make sure the paint is dry before removing masking tape from window and carpet edges. Clean all paint brushes immediately.

Painting offers a flexible way to add pizzazz to any room in your home.

Home Insurance Quotes - Tips For Getting The Best

You can save a great deal if you know how to get the best home insurance quotes for your profile (This article will show you how). But before that or while you do that, there are many other steps you must take if you want to pay a lot less. Here are a few of them...

1. Window locks on all windows will help you save since they reduce your home's risk of burglary. You will save even a lot more if you go one step more to get burglary-proof bars fixed on all of them. Although most people don't like this because it makes them feel like a prisoner in their own house, it really does lower your premium considerably. If you're not one of those people who claim that having such amounts to being imprisoned in their own house, have them fixed if you want to lower your home insurance rates considerably.

2. It pays to purchase more than one policy from the same insurer as this will attract huge savings. This is known as a multi-policy discount and is available with all insurers. However, you might be better served by getting your policies from different insurance companies.

3. Install smoke and fire detectors. Install the right numbers of smoke and fire detectors for your size and kind of house if you intend to use this to get lower rates. If you have them, don't forget to change their batteries twice every year.

Detectors mean fires are quickly spotted and extinguished before much damage is done. And since the risk of fire in a house is important in working out home insurance premiums, you'll pay far less by taking this step.

4. Make sure you have fire extinguishers in your house at important points or near all fire sources. If you do NOT have any other place, make sure your kitchen has one. It's important that the fire extinguisher be adequate for the place it covers.

A fire extinguisher is only useful if it can be reached and also functions well. So ensure that it is in perfect condition and within easy reach. Doing this will help you reduce your rates.

5. Do routine maintenance of your home if you want reduced premiums. Check for those dead limbs on trees on your land. They could raise a liability claim. Such on-the-spot maintenance will cost you little but result in considerable savings over time.

6. You can get better quotes on home insurance now by visiting a minimum of five insurance quotes sites. Each site will require around 5 minutes or less to request quotes. (Some people present information that is not really true about themselves. That is NOT a smart move since the quotes you'll get this way won't be of any use to you). You'll simply select the best home insurance quote for you from the list of quotes obtained. That's all there is to it. However, you could get savings hundreds of dollars.

10 Tips To Get Cheaper Home Insurance

It is always nice when you can pay less for house insurance and get the same or more cover. Below are 10 handy tips that you can carry out to get cheaper house insurance premiums.

1. Increase your voluntary excess

Your insurance excess is the amount of money you will pay on a claim before the insurer pays the remainder. For example, if you had a 200 pound excess and a £500 claim you would pay 200 pounds and the insurer would pay 300 pounds. If you choose to increase your excess, you will be charged a lower premium. You can make huge savings by doing this. When you are comparing policies, play around with changing the excess amount to see how much you can save.

2. Fit smoke alarms

Fire alarms are reasonably cheap, especially when compared to the cost of a home or the loss of a life. A large number of home fires are caused by cooking or smoking. Don't leave matches or lighters laying around, never leave your cooking unattended and don't smoke cigarettes in bed. Be aware if you have young children that they love to play with all things exciting and new. They may turn the cooker on, light paper or cover lamps. All of these things can cause a fire in your home.

3. Install new locks

If you have just moved into a new home, you don't know who might still have a key. The cost of replacing your locks is far less than having all of your worldly possessions stolen from from your house. Ensure you fit quality locks - preferably 5-lever mortise locks.

4. Have security lighting installed

Theives prefer to work under the cover of darkness and don't like to be in the spotlight. Use movement sensors with your lighting to surprise unwanted visitors and keep them at bay. A blast of bright light will also raise attention with neighbours or yourself in the middle of the night.

5. Install time switches on internal lights

Your home is most at risk to burgulary when you are not there. Lights that are activated at a certain time will give outsiders the impression that you are at home when you are not. You can stagger the intervals the lights are switched on and off in various rooms make it appear like you are moving about your home.

6. Have an alarm system installed

Ask your insurer if they have a preferred supplier of home alarm systems. By installing a professional alarm system can often reduce premiums by over five %. That is a great saving, and it will give you peace of mind that your home is safe.

7. Don't leave your keys under the mat

This will be the 1st place a thief will look. If you need to hide your house keys, put a little thought into somewhere a burglar would never think of looking. Also don't leave your keys on a hook close to the front door where a thief may be able to hook the keys with a wire through the front letter box.

8. Insulate your external pipes Outside pipes can freeze easily in the great British weather. By lagging (wrapping insulation around the pipe) your external pipes will help to reduce the chance of them freezing. If pipes do freeze you can easily get leaks in cracked pipes or burn out pump motors as the water will not pass through the pipe.

9. Regularly check you house and property for subsidence.

Subsidence is normally covered by your buildings insurance. It is important to detect movement as soon as possible to limit damage to you house. Look for unevenness in walls and floors and cracks in walls.

10. Only claim if you have to

The fewer number of claims you make, the higher your no claims discount will be. If a minor incident occurs, consider carefully prior to claiming the item on your insurance. If you do submit a claim and loose your no claims discount, is this going to cost you more in the long run?

In order to save money on your insurance you need to compare providers. Ideally you should do this once a year to make sure you are always getting the best price.

Easy Tips for Organizing Your Home Office

If your office desk is in disarray and you can seldom find what you need, it is time to set up a system that works for you. These easy office organizing tips are just the first steps to achieving a functional office.

Choose a Filing System

Choosing and setting up a filing system are key ingredients to organizing your home office. One good way to start this process is by visiting an office supply store. There you will find a variety of components to use in your filing system. Filing cabinets which can be found in various sizes to fit most office spaces are the cornerstone to a good filing system. However, there are clear plastic containers, stacking baskets and plastic crates that also work very well to hold files, notebooks and other office paper.

Use In/Out Baskets

As you are opening your mail, put papers that require immediate attention in your in basket. The out basket is used for outgoing mail or for papers and documents that are to be filed. In/out baskets may be stacking baskets that sit on your desk or baskets that are mounted on the wall that free up the top of your desk. A container that is divided into two pockets and holds papers vertically rather than horizontally is also very functional.

Go Digital

One of the best ways to minimize paper is by storing information online. Your address book, bill paying, to-do lists, checkbook, and tax information are just a sampling of the many things you can store on your computer. Make sure you keep a backup of all your information in a safe place.

Make a rule that at the end of each day you will clear off your desk by putting papers in your in/out baskets or filing them in your file cabinet or other filing system so they are readily accessible.

This can lead to immediate student debt that can haunt them for years.

Everyday we hear about what happens when young people are not financially prepared: runaway student debt, foreclosures and the struggle of living paycheck-to-paycheck are some of the issues today's youth face. Also consider that just a single late payment made on a student credit card will show up on their credit report for seven years. Fortunately for homeschool parents, you can help your children avoid these problems by teaching them practical financial education skills.

In today's age, it is vital for homeschool parents to recognize that financial education is missing from high school curriculum so it is important you provide your teenager with the knowledge they need to make in the financial real world.
